Almost a year, and now that I can use more product on my sisterlocks...

...this is my new routine:

I'm still binding to wash (to prevent bunching of the remaining permed ends), but only into four or six sections.

I'm still washing with Sisterlocks starter shampoo, for the most part.

I intend to do an Apple cider Vinegar rinse every two to three months or so.

After washing and while my scalp is damp, I apply Soul Purpose body balm to my scalp. The ingredients are as follows: coconut oil, shea butter, soybean oil, beeswax (you'd never be able to tell from the lightness of the product - obviously a minor ingredient), avocado butter, cocoa butter, mango butter, sunflower oil, sweet almond oil, vitamin E and fragrance (my favorite fragrance is Brazilian Jackfruit).

Once a week or so, I plan to dry condition with Phyllis the Videoloctician's - Healthy Locs Conditioning Mist (Ingredients: purified water, conditioning base formula, organic aloe vera juice, vegetable glycerin, hydrolyzed wheat protein, vitamin E, polysorbate 80, and fragrance).

And now for a few texture shots!

Still seeing some pattern close to the scalp, of course

Nice parting

Thank you so much for letting me finally get the information on how to order Healthy Locs conditioning mist. I have been trying to buy it forever!

Happy to have posted the info! I just assumed most people know about Phyllis' websites.

She ran a special last fall - buy a Soul Purpose Body Balm and get a Healthy Locs Conditioning Mist for free.

Make sure you get on her mailing list!

Beautiful! Your locs are really showing their length. Let me know if you have any suggestions about bunching, it gives me the blues but I am not quite ready to cut off the permed ends.

Bunching is the one thing that keeps me binding inspite of my pretty well established entangling closer to my ends.

The one time I didn't bind to wash my hair, I had a lot of noticeable bunching.

I have the length to bind into as few as 6 sections to wash. I bind starting just above the locked portion, extending below where the perm meets my natural hair.

Curly ends with my usual braid-out style make any bunching a lot less noticeable.

Hope this helps.

Hello! I see that you use a lot more product on your hair than I thought was "recommended" by consultants. I'm still learning and rying to get feedback from everyone. =) My sister currently has sisterlocks (almost 1 year now) and says she likes using conditioner because it keeps her locs soft (not stiff). Do you have the same sentiments?

I look forward to your thoughts!

Hey Ms. S,

After a year, most of my hair from from my forehead to past my crown was fairly well locked. I had significant entangling in the temples and in my 'kitchen' such that I felt ok using a little oil on my scalp and mist on my dry hair. I still use sisterlocks shampoo (or some other clarifying shampoo - no conditioners). I do set with very dilute "Lottabody" (Blaqkofi's favorite).

Not a lot of product, I thought, after a year. (I don't count the apple cider vinegar as 'product'!)

However, if you have a less coily grade of hair, and depending upon your regimen and how well you adhered to the 'no products' rule early on, you may not be locked or entangled enough to deviated from the 'just sisterlocks shampoo' routine!

Admittedly, I use more product than my consultant would like :o) but I still never use conditioner nor conditioning shampoo - and it's been over a year and a half.
