Naturally Sophia is back! (and she's 'vlogging' on Youtube)

Remember Naturally Sophia?

Well, you can find her vlogging here.  Please subscribe to her blog and to her Youtube channel!

I haven't posted in a year.  I guess I lost my momentum and life got in the way, BUT there are soooo many wonderful and informative natural hair vloggers on Youtube that there is more than enough information out there to keep you informed and motivated!

My hair has grown like a weed since last I posted (over a year ago).  I cut about four inches off in the back and two inches off in the front last month.  I had never cut that much off before, but my hair is still long and I could stand a couple more inches to come off.  I find that it holds a curl better after my major trim and my re-ti's are easier on m yscalp and faster.  I had developed swelling of my ends over time which made my re-ti's less comfortable, but now the length of the lock is more uniform and my last re-ti was a breeze.

Sorry, but I don't have any great photos of myself at max length hair.  It was about halfway down my back before my trim.

Before my trim:

The photos above doesn't show the length because my hair is swept to the side.

These photos were taken just after my trim (4 inches off back; 2 inches off front).  I did the trim myself.  (Yes, I can be an impatient, cheapskate from time to time :o)

Photos of DocsLocs...It's been a while

How long has it been? This is a 42 month post. I see a post labeled 39 months, but those were yukky iphone photos that were under exposed. (I got a new camera :o)

My routine hasn't changed. I washed 3 days ago with a clarifying shampoo. Hot six oiled my scalp. Used a bit of a 'cholesterol-like' or 'mayonnaise-like' conditioner as a leave in. I rolled my hair in fairly small sections on perm rods (grey and white size). When I ran out of perm rods I used some sponge rollers sans sponges. I sat under a bonnet dryer - the kind you attach to a blow dryer...I'm more careful since I think I burned out 5 locs last fall...a post for another time...

I still hate to wash and do so about every two to three weeks or so. This set should last me a couple of weeks or until I shampoo again.

I know my ends look as if I bleached them. I think it's just their age and perhaps the sun. In fact, I put in a bit of dark brown color - mostly at the roots and perhaps 5 inches out - so the ends weren't covered with color. Been fighting those greys around my hairline, but I mostly rely on the mascara fix as I am particular about maintaining as strong and full a hairline as I can.

Hope all is well with y'all. Love your feedback.

Old Chinese saying...

I needed some comic relief and Latara sent this to me right on time:

Old Chinese Proverb...

Confucius say,

"If you are in a book store and cannot find the book for which you search, you are obviously...

[Shh! You didn't hear it from Docs!]

Have a great week ;0)

My First Dragon Head

Oh boy.

I think when I popped a loc near the crown of my head, I torn away most of the base of the loc. Plus, perhaps I had my sponge-less sponge rollers in too tight when I set my hair last night. This is why I think Julia found a loc on a pretty flimsy base of a few strands of hair at my re-tightening this morning.

"I think you're gonna lose this one," she said. "I have to join it to another one."

And thus, my dragon head, or viper tongue, or whatever you want to call it.

Sorry for the blurry photos. These were taken with my iphone :o)

"V" for victory! Just kidding.

Maybe some Rogaine might speed up the regrowth process...

Sisterlocks Photos: Atlanta Meetup & Booksigning

Dr. Joanne Cornwell, originator of sisterlocks, educating, entertaining and engaging her audience as only she can!

The Atlanta Sisterlocks Meetup and book signing was a wonderful ingathering of sisters, each one of us admirers of sisterlocks whether sisterlocks wearers or contemplatives.

Natural Beauty Salon in Gwinnett County (Duluth) Georgia was a great venue. The parking was ample and the food tasty (and free!)

My consultant, Julia Stewart-Stackhaus' beautiful head of sisterlocks.

Julia is a multi-talented sister. She has a degree in broadcast journalism, she is a sisterlocks consultant extraordinaire, and a professional body builder.

There were brotherlocks wearers who modeled as well.
I sat next to a brother who was marveling at all of the beautiful sisters sporting their sisterlocks and saying, "I'm in the Black mans heaven." :o)

Sisterlock Texture Shot Photos: My second Loc' iversary

My how time flies. In two weeks it'll be two years - February 3, 2008.

Our annual MLK weekend ski trip always get me remembering my "installation anticipation."

No slope photos this year. I went out with the guys only on Saturday and my camera batteries died early, but I took a few inside shots.

Texture shots follow...

Gotta acknowledge those seasoned sisterlocks bloggers that inspired me when I was just a "contemplative."

"Sisterlocks on Pipe Cleaners" Photos

My first Pipe cleaner set!

And I didn't like it :o( - Maybe I did something wrong.

Went back to binding, just a bit, since I had a couple sisterlocks come undone after I clipped my ends a few months ago.

I've been using Suave clarifying shampoo and Herbal Essence Drama Clean.

Sisterlocks on pipe cleaners...and the result...

Interesting. Sorta looks like...ummm...let's see...

...Pipe Cleaners!

I don't like it as much as I do when I set my hair on my "spongeless sponge rollers." The ends are flyaway and not coiled as I had expected.

Gonna be goin' back to using my trusty spongeless sponge rollers. My old flexible rod rollers were great for my braid-outs when I had permed ends, but I had to abandon the flexible rod rollers once my sisterlocks grew and thickened and I cut my permed ends off.

Still though, it nice to be "loc'd up and lye-free" :o)
