"Sisterlocks on Pipe Cleaners" Photos

My first Pipe cleaner set!

And I didn't like it :o( - Maybe I did something wrong.

Went back to binding, just a bit, since I had a couple sisterlocks come undone after I clipped my ends a few months ago.

I've been using Suave clarifying shampoo and Herbal Essence Drama Clean.

Sisterlocks on pipe cleaners...and the result...

Interesting. Sorta looks like...ummm...let's see...

...Pipe Cleaners!

I don't like it as much as I do when I set my hair on my "spongeless sponge rollers." The ends are flyaway and not coiled as I had expected.

Gonna be goin' back to using my trusty spongeless sponge rollers. My old flexible rod rollers were great for my braid-outs when I had permed ends, but I had to abandon the flexible rod rollers once my sisterlocks grew and thickened and I cut my permed ends off.

Still though, it nice to be "loc'd up and lye-free" :o)

From what I can see, you rolled your locs on the pipe cleaners like a flat twist as if you were trying to take up the space of the pipe cleaner.
Instead, roll your locs on the pipe cleaner as you would your flexi-rods or like loc loops. As you roll, create a spiral motion. You can have short spirals or long spirals. Just remember the more you over lap to create a spiral the more drying time you need.

DocLocs, I feel your dislike of your results particularly after the EFFORT of rolling so many SLs. Please believe pipecleaner curls can be so BEAUTIFULLY achieved. It REALLY is in the technique...because tool alone is so simple. You have seen our girl, Phyllis Johnson's SpringLocks handiwork and talented SL'd sistahs. Keep working at it... There is a learning curve!

Thanks ladies, for the advice.

You know I love Phyllis' dos! But I thought her spring locs were done with two strand twists and nubian knots(?) (I guess I should order the video, huh? :o)

Anyway, you're right. The tools themselves are inexpensive and I've seen others with gorgeous, bouncy spirals. I'll try it again with the pipe cleaners hanging away from my scalp next time.

I agree it is the technique the first time I rolled my hair with soft Spike Curlers and pipe cleaners the turn out was a disaster, however after awhile I got the technique down and had some beautiful curls to show for it. So don't give up just yet, try agiain in the future. See how you like it the second time around.

Take Care
